My love affair with Pop Music started 30 years ago in the summer of 1987.  It hasn't always been an easy ride. POP is a four letter word in some music circles. You mention that word to any die hard music fan and you're more than likely to get a scowl than a smile.

My love affair with Pop Music started 30 years ago in the summer of 1987.  It hasn't always been an easy ride. POP is a four letter word in some music circles. You mention that word to any die hard music fan and you're more than likely to get a scowl than a smile.

Often thought as fluff or forgettable, it is no surprise that there's such a polarizing opinion about it.  Let's get literal for a second though; pop means people and popular means to appeal to a lot of people.  Pretty much all the biggest bands in the world could be considered "pop music" because they wouldn't be where they are if they weren't popular.  So as much as anyone wants to say pop music is just boy bands and pop tarts - it’s really actually any artist who can appeal to the masses.

The store will represent all genres and styles of music that are popular.  I built Pop Music for the fans with a desire to make customers to feel welcome and be inspired by what they see.  A place without judgement, arrogance or elitism, it's about celebrating who you love.  Pop Music isn't just about records, you'll be able to take a lot more home than just the albums.  Wear it, share it, drink it, live it.  I have sought out the industry leaders in product licensing as a means to offer you some of the coolest band merch available.  It will be ever-evolving as new products become available.

I've spent the last 8 years running the biggest music store in Canada under the HMV umbrella.  In that time, I immersed myself in the customer experience, listening to what people wanted and used my resources to create exclusive offers and promotions.  With the support of many great people, my vision for Pop Music has come to life and I can't wait to share it with you in November.  In the meantime follow the journey by visiting @PopMusicTO on the various social media channels.  There are links on the homepage.
