A Christmas Album features traditional Christmas songs performed and arranged by Bright Eyes' Conor Oberst and Maria Taylor along with the help of Saddle Creek label mates Jake Bellows, Gretta Cohn, Armand Costanzo, Denver Dalley, Stefanie Drootin, Orenda Fink, Neely Jenkins, Jiha Lee, Andy LeMaster, Mike Mogis, Matt Oberst, Stephen Pedersen, Blake Sennett, Macey Taylor, and Nick White.

The album was recorded in 2002 and originally available only through Saddle Creek with all proceeds going to the Nebraska AIDS Project. At the time, The New York Times called the record "the saddest, sweetest holiday recording you'll hear all season."
