The album captures James Brown during the first of many great peaks in his lengthy illustrious career as one of the greatest, most influential soul men ever to walk this earth.
Live at the Apollo trailblazed a whole slew of astonishing live soul albums recorded in the early 60's like Sam Cooke's Live at the Harlem Square Club, Bo Diddley's Beach Party, and Etta James' Rocks the House These were all recorded in the year following the release of this record, piggy-backing on it's huge success.
