A Love Supreme was originally recorded in one take in December 1964 and was released the following year by Impulse Records. The critically acclaimed album, a suite comprising four parts, is universally recognized as Coltrane's masterpiece.
In July 1965, the John Coltrane Quartet appeared at the 6th International Jazz Festival, Juan-Les-Pins, Antibes, France; on their first night they performed the complete A Love Supreme suite with the original lineup: John Coltrane (tenor sax), McCoy Tyner (piano), Jimmy Garrison (bass) and Elvin Jones (drums).
The performance was recorded by French TV but tragically, only twelve minutes had survived. Fortunately, the Charly archivists have retrieved and restored the entire live concert, which remains the only recorded live concert performance by its original musicians.
Heavyweight double vinyl produced by Charly UK in 2024. Includes replica concert poster.
