Nigerian quartet Mdou Moctar released their acclaimed album Funeral for Justice, in 2024. Tears of Injustice is a new recording of that album, this time performed entirely on acoustic instruments.

The recording sessions took place at Brooklyn’s Bunker Studio in the summer of 2023 as a way to make use of downtime while the band was briefly stranded in the United Sates in the wake of Niger’s recent military coup. The acoustic arrangements give new dimension to the songs, swapping Funeral’s blistering volume for a more intimate and meditative tone.

Heavyweight vinyl produced by Matador Records in 2025.
