The Replacements' 1981 debut album Sorry Ma, Forgot To Take Out The Trash is squarely inspired by punk rock. Part of The Replacements' appeal always was that they didn't quite fit into any tidy category. They didn't fit anywhere within American punk, but there's no defiance here; there's a celebration of who and what they are that's genuinely, infectiously guileless.
Sorry Ma, Forgot To Take Out The Trash may not quite sound like any other American punk record but it's one of the best records the entire scene produced in the early '80s. Highlights include "Takin' A Ride".
The Replacements signed with Minneapolis-based Twin/Tone Records in 1980. Over the next four years, the band helped shape the future of alternative rock with its "Left of the Dial" sound and notorious live shows, where the band often danced the razor's edge between brilliant and belligerent.
Heavyweight vinyl produced by Rhino Records for Twin/Tone Records in 2016.
