Sturgill Simpson's seventh album, The Ballad of Dood & Juanita, is a concept album loosely based on his family's Civil War-era stories. This is the singer-songwriter's third album in just 12 months but is his most ambitious project to date. Simpson described the album as a "rollercoaster ride through all the styles of traditional country and bluegrass and mountain music that I love, including gospel and a cappella."
The Ballad of Dood & Juanita includes the singles "Sam", "One In The Saddle, One On The Ground" and "Juanita", which features an guest appearance from Willie Nelson. This record also features the same ace musicians who played on Simpson's popular Cuttin' Grass albums.
