The Band, the second studio album by The Band is also known as "The Brown Album". Viewed as a concept album, with the songs focusing on people, places and traditions associated with an older version of Americana. It features The Band's best-known and critically acclaimed songs, including "The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down".
When The Band's seminal eponymous second album was released 50 years ago in September 1969, not much more was known about the reclusive group than when they released their landmark debut, Music From Big Pink, to widespread critical praise and bewilderment, just the year before. The group, made up of four Canadians and one American, was still shrouded in mystery, allowing for listeners and the music press to let their imaginations run wild about who these men were and what this music was that sounded unlike anything else happening at the close of the psychedelic '60s.
For the album's 50th Anniversary, The Band is presented for the first time ever on heavyweight double vinyl pressed by Capitol Records. This edition features the new stereo mix of the album by Bob Clearmountain and all tracks have been remastered by Bob Ludwig, at 45RPM,
Heavyweight audiophile double vinyl produced by Capitol Records in 2019. Gatefold sleeve.
