Toots and the Maytals, one of the most renowned Ska and Rocksteady groups of all time, were pivotal in popularizing Reggae music. The group was formed in the early 1960s, with frontman Toots Hibbert, who passed away in 2020, recognized as a reggae pioneer alongside icons like Bob Marley and Peter Tosh. His soulful vocal style drew comparisons to Otis Redding, earning him a spot as one of the top 100 male singers of all time by Rolling Stone magazine.

Their groundbreaking 1968 hit "Do the Reggay" was the first record to use the word "Reggae," coining the genre’s name and introducing it to an international audience. Sweet and Dandy the group's third album, was originally released on Beverley's Records in 1968. Sweet and Dandy perfectly encapsulates the Jamaican music scene of the late ‘60s, marked by the tail end of ska and rocksteady’s local dominance, and reggae’s ascension to become both Jamaica’s national sound and international export. Features "Pressure Drop", "Monkey Man", and "54-56 (That's My Number)".

Heavyweight vinyl produced by Orchard Enterprises in 2024. Made in the UK.
