U2 - War

U2 really began to develop their platform of political awareness with the release of their third album 'War'. The 1983 records features such anthems as "Sunday Bloody Sunday" and "New Year's Day", as well as the title, which stems from the band's perception of the world at the time. Briefly leaving the sonic adventures behind for something more aware and immediate, U2 combines the arena ready sound of Boy with the grand vision of October to create War. Produced by Steve Lillywhite, War is a brilliantly conflicted album, sounding martial and majestic while its very purpose is to tear down false idols propped up by politics.
