Sheer visceral force is one thing, but originality is another, and the still-amazing thing about Van Halen's 1978 debut album 'Van Halen'  is how it sounds like it has no fathers.

At the time of its release, much of the fuss surrounding '1984' involved Van Halen's adoption of synthesizers. The record boasted three smash singles: "Jump", "Panama" and "Hot For Teacher" were huge radio hits.

'Van Halen II', the 1979 sophomore album from Van Halen features the singles "Dance The Night Away", "Somebody Get Me A Doctor" and "Beautiful Girls", all of which helped propel the album to sell over 6M copies in the US alone.

Van Halen returned with their third album in 1980. Produced by Ted Templeman, 'Women And Children First' marked a heavier direction for the band. It features the singles "Cradle Will Rock", "Everybody Wants Some" and "Could This Be Magic".

Van Halen returned with their fourth record in 1981. Described as some of the fiercest music the band ever made, 'Fair Warning' features the singles "So This Is Love", "Unchained", "Mean Street" and "Hear About It Later".
