The official soundtrack to the Questlove's acclaimed documentary Summer of Soul (...Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised) features rare recordings from the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival. Highlights include Nina Simone, Sly & The Family Stone, Gladys Knight & The Pips, The Staple Singers, 5th Dimension, Herbie Mann and more.
Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson's directorial debut documentary Summer of Soul, won the Oscar for 'Best Documentary Feature' at the 94th Academy Awards and the Grammy for 'Best Music Film' at the 64th Grammy Awards. The film captures is a joyous musical celebration and the rediscovery of a nearly erased historical event that celebrated Black culture, pride and unity. Like the documentary, most of the audio recordings that were recorded during the 1969 Harlem Cultural Festival have not been heard for over 50 years.
Heavyweight double vinyl produced by Legacy Recordings in 2022.
